Whenever I am in China, I usually opt for Chinese food. However, a friend recommended that the yakitori in Shenzhen is superb, and after some research, we decided on BON YAKI.

Fresh chicken grilled over charcoal and actual fire — duh, of course it’s good.

Speaking From Experience

Based on my experiences in Shenzhen, opt for chicken, lamb, pork, local beef, and freshwater fish, as they are often of superior quality due to local sourcing. For Wagyu beef or seafood, consider Hong Kong for better quality and pricing, as these items are typically imported.

I discovered BON YAKI on 小红书; it was rated as one of the best yakitori spots in Shenzhen. Admittedly, I was quite tipsy and ended up ordering almost the entire menu, so I can’t recall each dish specifically. Overall, the experience at BON YAKI was really good with nothing to complain about.

One Tip!

If you’re drinking, it’s better to order by the bottle. We had sake, which was fine, but after finishing two bottles, friendly staff at BON YAKI offered us free shots and highballs, which tasted odd. Unfortunately, we all had terrible hangovers afterward, which was sad.

Last Bites

Value for Money: 7/10. HKD1191 per person. Considering we ordered enough food that could easily feed twice the party size, along with two bottles of sake and some other cocktails, isn't bad at all.
