Club Bâtard is a new private club in Central, and its location is fantastic. I only visited the Club Bâtard floor, which has a nice overall ambiance. We ordered several dishes, including the caviar angel hair, beef tartare, mussels, burrata, and the Bâtard infamous chicken and duck. I particularly enjoyed the burrata; it was excellent and the standout dish for me. The other offerings, while not bad, didn’t quite reach the same level.

Overpriced AF

Given the joining fee of HKD 60,000 plus a monthly membership at Bâtard, I found the food to be quite expensive for a private club, especially considering the miniatures portion sizes We ordered four starters to share among three of us, along with two main courses (chicken and duck), and the total came to HKD 1,450+ per person, excluding alcohol. They do offer a degustation menu priced around HKD 1,500 per person, but this only includes a choice between chicken or duck as the main, and the caviar pasta is not even part of that menu.

Expensive place with expansive wine and limited service.

The wine cellar is impressive, spanning several floors and definitely an Instagram-worthy spot, particularly appealing to wine enthusiasts. However, I felt that Bâtard is a place with such emphasis on its wine selection, the service could use significant improvement. Throughout our dinner, we ordered a bottle of champagne and a bottle of red wine. While I was drinking at a regular pace, there were times when my wine glass was empty, and our bottle was taken away, leaving us unable to pour ourselves. I found myself having to signal the servers for help, which was frustrating, especially in a setting where one would expect a higher level of service.

Went back for lunch again, only ordered the caviar angel hair, burrata, and steak to share with a glass of white wine and a glass of red. The bill came to HKD2330 per head. Revisiting within the same week, I still enjoy the Burrata — imagine a well-executed croissant with burrata and tomato, absolutely delicious. This guilty pleasure costs HKD300 and probably another 500 calories, but I would gladly return for more. The caviar angel hair tho is mediocre and expensive. I don’t even recall much about the steak — it’s forgettable. Not a place I would recommend going to at your own expense.

Service: 5 / 10
Ambiance: 7 / 10
Tempo: 6 / 10

Value for Money: 4 / 10. At a total cost of HKD2,090 per person for dinner (3 of us) and HKD2330 per person for lunch (2 of us), it’s worth noting that this price includes the premium associated with the joining and monthly membership fees. Given this cost, I expected much more from the experience.
