I‘ve had my share of horse meat back in Switzerland, but the stars aligned and it was finally time to take on the donkey game – gave my Donkey virginity to Wang Pang Zi Donkey Burgers 王胖子驴肉火烧. Apparently, eating ass is a big thing in Beijing (according to CNN) and Wang Pang Zi Donkey Burgers 王胖子驴肉火烧 is famous for it. Texture-wise, it’s like a mix of super lean beef stew. The flavour game is different! My friend said it is an experience so we went for one with lean meat and another that was a mix of lean and fat.

First time eating ASS in Beijing - I was hoping for a bit more juice with my meat.

The wrap, all crispy and golden, like it’s been practicing for a foodporn shoot. But then the main act arrives – the donkey meat. Texture-wise, it’s like a mix of super lean beef stew. The flavour game is different. It was Interesting, but not distinct very subtle and I’m lost for words. Trust me, it’s not the “stop everything and try it now” kind of deal, more like a “if you’re in the mood, why not give it a shot” situation. So, no biggie if you decide to give it a pass – plenty of other delicious food in Beijing! The soup – literally just water with egg, can miss.
