After a marathon meeting and a growling stomach, I stumbled upon Maru De Sankaku 鯛白湯らーめん (for some reason I thought it’s called Ode) around 3 pm on a Saturday, thanks to the robust Hong Kong Dollar everyone is having ramen in Japan instead. Arriving late had its perks — I could casually walk into a restaurant without the usual rush.

Decent for a quick lunch if you're in the neighbourhood.

Choosing a seat by the bar, I had a front-row view of the chef crafting our ramen. It triggered memories of the warm welcomes at ramen joints in Japan, but the atmosphere at Maru De Sankaku 鯛白湯らーめん leaned towards the serious side. Maybe my hunger played a role; I was eagerly awaiting my meal.

We started with the chicken karaage — crispy skin and juicy meat, hitting the spot after a lengthy meeting. Opting for the fish soup ramen, I relished its intense fishiness, a burst of freshness, and a powerful umami flavour. Though the chashu could have been juicier and more flavourful, the overall experience was commendable. The yuzu sauce on the side was a thoughtful touch, balancing the robust fish soup and cleansing the palate.
