Recommended by a local friend, I arrived at Saneh Jaan and was pleasantly surprised to discover it held a One Michelin Star. I got to Saneh Jaan around 8:20-ish, to my surprise staff informed me that the last order would be at 8:30. As soon as I sat down, I felt a sense of urgency to place my order.

The whole experience felt very very rushed (I really didn’t expect 8:30 to be the last order, I made dinner reservations at 8:30 back home).

The staff left the menu on the table and hurried me to make my selections. I attempted to seek recommendations, but I was simply directed to look for dishes on the menu with ‘hats’ – their signature / recommended dishes.

In the end, I decided on the following dishes:

Sweet and Sour Crispy Rice Vermicelli with River Prawn

Stir-Fried Ribeye with Green Curry Paste

Massaman Curry with Chicken

Baby Crispy Rice, Taro, and Cantaloupe in Coconut Milk

During my meal at Saneh Jaan, I couldn’t help but feel that everything was rushed. To my surprise, the first dish, the river prawn, arrived on the table after just 6 minutes of ordering. It made me wonder if they had pre-made these ‘signature’ dishes and let them wait. They skillfully de-shelled the river prawns and mixed them with the crispy rice vermicelli. While the first bite was crunchy and enjoyable, I quickly grew tired of it as the flavours became monotonous and uninspiring.

9 minutes later…

Both the ribeye and the curry were served. The Rib Eye with green curry paste tasted decent, but the meat itself was quite average. As for the Massaman curry, the curry itself was fine, but the chicken lacked flavour, and the soggy potato on top left me puzzled. Honestly, the food felt mediocre, and I’ve had better meals in Kowloon City.

Dessert didn’t offer much redemption; it was overly sweet and lacking in inspiration. The entire meal felt rushed, taking just 30 minutes to finish. While I understand that 8:30 is their last order time, I couldn’t help but question the pride in both the food and service they were providing at a Michelin Starred restaurant. It left me perplexed as to how they had earned their Michelin Star, given the service, pacing, and food quality.

Taste: 5.5 / 10
Service: 3 / 10
Ambiance: 6 / 10
Tempo: 0 / 10

Value For Money: I'd rate it 0 out of 10. The dinner cost THB2412, which is approximately HKD540. For a One Star Michelin restaurant where half the restaurant was empty and I could easily secure a table, it raised questions. It seems I'm not the only one who might be avoiding this place.
