As the clock struck 12 pm, the doors swung open at Udon Kisuke うどん屋 きすけ, and there I stood at 11:40 am, already queued up under the merciless 40°C heat — let’s just say it was full on Physical 100 vibes.

As I stood in the queue, Udon Kisuke うどん屋 きすけ thoughtfully circulated two menus — one in Japanese, the other in English — urging us to pre-order for a speedier dining experience. My fat boy spirit got the best of me, and I went all in, customising my order with a medley of add-ons. And then came that moment of revelation — the server placed before me the largest bowl of udon, on the side piled high with my extra toppings . The server’s succinct reaction of “すごい” (which, for the uninitiated, translates to a simple “wow” in Japanese) was utterly appropriate.

What to Add-on

The flavours that followed were equally captivating — the pumpkin element was a velvety burst of creamy goodness; the fish cake emerged as a true standout (if you’re listening, highly recommend giving that a shot); the eggplants, thick and juicy just how I like it. And then, the interesting chewy delight — the mochi, added a playful twist to the meal.

Now, let’s talk about the udon itself — it undeniably held its own in terms of quality, perfectly cooked and tasty. (Though, I must admit, I’m not entirely sure if I’d commit to another 50-minute queue for it.) Once I was finally seated, the reason behind the slow-moving queue at Udon Kisuke うどん屋 きすけ became crystal clear. They nonchalantly placed me — a solo diner — at a table originally meant for four. Their seating protocol, it seems, wasn’t exactly a pinnacle of efficiency. If we were in Hong Kong, we’d probably figure out a way to accommodate four solo diners at the very same table — LOL, the dynamics here are quite different!

Value For Money: 10 / 10! As for the bill, my estimation hovers around JPY3500, which conveniently translates to approximately HKD188. It's rather amusing how Hong Kong might charge you the same price for just one 海老天婦羅 — sigh, I want to move to Japan .
